The project titled “Folk Culture in the Context of Mining and Industrialization: The Karadeniz Ereğli Example”, conducted by Dr. Lecturer Serdar Deniz Özdemir from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Zonguldak Bülent Ecevit University (BEUN), has been deemed worthy of support by TÜBİTAK.
The project titled “Folk Culture in the Context of Mining and Industrialization: The Karadeniz Ereğli Example”, conducted by Dr. Lecturer Serdar Deniz Özdemir from the Department of Turkish Language and Literature at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at BEUN, and in which Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gülda Çetindağ Süme from the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences at Fırat University took part as a researcher, has been deemed worthy of support within the scope of the TÜBİTAK 3501 Career Development Program.
The project aims to reveal various folk culture products specific to the Karadeniz Ereğli region, which was affected by elements such as coal mining, industrialization, iron and steel working. The project also aims to record the oral culture obtained from the source people who will be interviewed in the research field, to preserve its cultural richness and diversity and to pass it on to future generations. While the project includes an application form that enables the use of technological opportunities of the twenty-first century in the field of social sciences, in this context, it is envisaged to raise awareness of cultural transfer in the internet environment through social media applications in order to increase the widespread effect and awareness of the data to be obtained from field research throughout the study.
BEUN Rector Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Özölçer, who made a statement about the project supported by the Turkish Language and Literature Department faculty member within the scope of TÜBİTAK 3501, said, “Dr. Lecturer, one of the academicians of our Turkish Language and Literature Department. This project, which will be carried out under the leadership of Dr. Serdar Deniz Özdemir, will not only reveal the industrial and local culture of Karadeniz Ereğli and present it to the scientific community, but will also provide an opportunity to preserve the oral, written and material cultures of the region. The fact that our academic staff undertakes such important projects adds value to the further strengthening of our university in scientific and cultural terms. I congratulate Dr. Lecturer Serdar Özdemir and his team, who are the executives of the project, and I hope that the project will be beneficial to our university, our city and our country.”
